SRINAGAR — July 3, 2026: Mr. Asif Nabi Dar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Democratic Party (JKNDP), has strongly condemned the unauthorized media interviewing and recording of school children by a local news portal, terming it a blatant violation of child rights and privacy laws.
Welcoming the swift and decisive action taken by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Srinagar, Mr. Asif Nabi Dar urged the Honorable Education Minister to personally intervene and establish stringent, foolproof security and media guidelines across all educational institutions in the region to prevent such exploitation in the future.
Upholding Child Dignity and the Law
Reacting to the CWC’s summons to the news portal Fair Voice News and its directive to the Cyber Police to scrub the viral videos from social media, the JKNDP President stated:
”Children are the bedrock of our future, not props for digital viewership or political soundbites. Exploiting school-going children by interviewing them without parental consent or school authorization is a severe breach of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and established NCPCR guidelines.”
Mr. Asif Nabi Dar expressed deep concern over the circulating videos, noting that dragging innocent children into public discourse and exposing them to digital scrutiny risks their safety, dignity, and psychological well-being. He commended the CWC Srinagar for demanding an immediate Action Taken Report from the Cyber Police within 48 hours.
Appeal to the Honorable Education Minister
In light of the incident—where children were filmed outside school premises expressing views concerning the education department—Mr. Asif Nabi Dar made a formal appeal to the Honorable Education Minister to take immediate policy-level measures:
Mandatory Security Perimeters: Direct all government and private school administrations to ensure no unauthorized media personnel are allowed to film or interview students within or immediately outside school gates.
Sensitization of School Authorities: Implement strict protocols requiring explicit, written parental and institutional consent before any student is engaged by media outlets.
Legal Accountability: Partner with law enforcement to ensure that elements trying to use school children for sensationalism face the full weight of the law under the JJ Act.
A Call to the Media Fraternity
Closing his statement, the JKNDP President called upon the journalistic community of Jammu and Kashmir to practice self-regulation and maintain the highest ethical standards.
While freedom of the press is vital, it cannot come at the cost of our children’s safety and dignity. We stand firmly with the administration and the CWC in ensuring that those who violated the law are held strictly accountable.
